Airport crash tenders are very strong vehicles. When compared to their size and weight, they accelerate reasonably well, can travel over rough terrain outside of airport boundaries, carry large amounts of water and firefighting foam, are equipped with strong high-capacity pumps and water/foam cannons, and can transport firefighting supplies over great distances. They are compatible with wheeled chassis with 4x4, 6x6, or even 8x8 wheels. The 8x8 wheeled unit may feature all four steerable front wheels to reduce turning radius.
